Route planner comparison –
which one is right for you?

Google Maps, ADAC Maps, Falk, ViaMichelin or Skynet Navigator: they can all calculate a route — but they set different priorities. Here we put the providers objectively side by side so you can find the right tool.

Objective & transparent As of May 2026 Five providers

What sets one route planner apart from another?

Every service can calculate a route from A to B these days. The differences are in the details.

Most people use a route planner for the quick trip from A to B — and all the major providers are well suited for that. It gets interesting when more is needed: a tour with multiple stops, printable directions, planning without an account, or a tool you can also use professionally.

This comparison looks at five route planners that are widely used in Germany. It makes no claim to completeness and does not rate the providers as "good" or "bad" — every service has its strengths. The goal is to make your choice easier based on clear, verifiable characteristics.

What each route planner is best suited for

Every service has its sensible field of use.

Skynet Navigator

Strong for tours with multiple stops: optimizes the order automatically, exports PDF and Excel, shows fixed speed cameras. Free and no account required.

Google Maps

Very strong for live traffic, real-time navigation and place information. The all-rounder for spontaneous single trips.

ADAC Maps

Well established for car travel, with extra info on tolls, fuel stations and traffic reports.

Falk & ViaMichelin

Classic route planners with a long tradition — solid for route calculation and partly with additional travel information.

Frequently asked questions about the route planner comparison

Which route planner is the best?

It depends on the purpose. For spontaneous single trips with live traffic, Google Maps is strong. For a planned tour with several stops to be driven in the optimal order, Skynet Navigator is well suited because it calculates the order automatically and outputs the tour as PDF or Excel.

Which route planner can optimize multiple destinations?

Most services let you enter multiple destinations. Automatically arranging the order of these destinations into the shortest route, however, is rarer — Skynet Navigator offers this. With the other providers compared, the entered order is usually kept unchanged.

Is there a route planner with no sign-up at all?

Yes. Skynet Navigator, ADAC Maps, Falk and ViaMichelin can generally be used without an account. With Google Maps, individual features such as saving places are tied to an account.

Are the details in the table binding?

The table is based on publicly available information as of May 2026. Providers' feature sets can change at any time. When in doubt, it is worth checking the respective provider's website.
